The power of brands ? I couldn’t resist this new video from Coca Cola. It hits many buttons. Not least the fact I love slick marketing and Dogs!! Take a minute or so to look at branding in action. A huge brand like Coke can push the boundaries and is brave enough to change it’s usual branding tack and share the names of it’s consumers; including Bobby the mut 🙂
I appreciate we don’t all have this level of marketing budget and there are elements that you could ‘copy’ ………..
Have an outcome
What was their outcome ? More sales of Coke? Possibly;further down the line. Though this video is about brand building and brand recognition. It makes you feel good about Coke. Great catchy music, happy people and finally a happy Dog. Hey, even I thought about grabbing a nice cool drink at the end of it. They also play out a great marketing story. It is called the Hero’s journey. Think about the John Lewis Snowman advert from the Christmas before last ? There is  a theme. It is a classic theme that is played out unconsciously in many of our lives and subconsciously creates a connection with us; deep I know. And it works.
Know your market
Coke do. Take a guess at who drinks more coke than anybody else. Surprise surprise they happen to be in the video. Every ethnic group as well. All doing ‘activities’ they love. Are you seeing the connection ? I drink Coke and I get to have a great time with friends.
Copy what is working
Anything with animals seems to score a hit. As human beings it flicks our emotional switch and puts us in a state of receptivity. Think the dreaded Meerkats from compare the market.
I know you might now be scratching your head and I have shared this to stimulate your grey matter. How are you building your recruitment brand ? What is your hero’s journey ? What might your equivalent of the ‘Bobby’ advert be?
